There's a lovely article about Dawlish on the Bristol web site at
This is Bristol
It's got a lot to say about Dawlish including:
"we discovered more places to buy food other than the local supermarket. The Lloyd Maunder butcher and neighbouring Stokes greengrocer proved invaluable.
The greengrocer has a good range of local vegetables (some from Riverford Organic Farm), and the butcher specialises in local meat from Devon. It's also wonderfully old-fashioned in that the rarely seen gala pie, haslet and brawn are still among the homemade staples on offer.
On the nights we didn't cook, we visited the appallingly named Rock 'n' Sole, a small but impressive fish and chip shop that is part of Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall's Fish Fight campaign and serves mackerel as well as the usual cod and haddock options."
