Tornado 60163

Tornado, the first new main line steam locomotive to be built in Britain for almost 50 years, doing duty as the Torquay Express. Photographed on the Dawlish Sea Wall section of the run, Sunday 9 August, 2009

In 1990 a group of people came together to share an extraordinary ambition - to construct a brand new Peppercorn A1 Pacific. After nineteen years of incredible effort that locomotive, No. 60163 Tornado, moved under it own power for the first time in 2008. The story behind this engine is truely amazing.
