The Exe and The Teign

Dawlish, Teignmouth and Starcross are bounded by two huge estuary rivers, the Exe and the Teign. The River Exe rises on Exmoor and flows for over 50 miles, running through the city of Exeter before it meets the English Channel at Exmouth, the southernmost point of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. The river Teign meets the sea at the seaside resort and busy commercial port of Teignmouth,

Birds to be seen on the estuaries include dunlin, oystercatchers, avocets, red-breasted merganser, brent geese - in winter there are as many as 40 different species of wildfowl and waders.

Starcross is a lovely estuary village with a quaint old harbour. The Dunkirk veteran My Queen is based at Starcross, to find out more about her exploits, click on her photo
